Meeting Information

2026–2030 Term

Council meetings are where the City decides. Here is how to follow them, speak when you need to, and reach me when a public meeting is not the right fit.

When and where

City of Nelson Council meets at City Hall — Suite 101, 310 Ward Street. Dates and start times change with the calendar, so check the City’s Council Meetings page or the CivicWeb portal for the current schedule, agendas, and minutes.

I also sit on Regional District boards and chair the recreation and parks commissions. Those meetings have their own calendars; I write them up in plain language on Reports when there is something worth carrying home.

Watch a meeting

Meetings are open to the public in the Council chamber. If you cannot make it downtown, the City livestreams through CivicWeb. Missed one? Open the meeting on the calendar and use the video button on that meeting’s page for the recording.

Speak to Council

If you want time on an agenda, that is a delegation. Regular Council rarely hears the public; Committee of the Whole is the usual place. The City’s rules are in the Procedure Bylaw and on the Delegations page. In short:

  • Send a written request or the Delegation Request Form to the Deputy Corporate Officer (smartineau@nelson.ca) at least 30 days before the meeting you want.
  • Presentation materials are due by noon on the Friday ten days before that meeting.
  • You get up to ten minutes unless Council extends the time. Address the Mayor as “Your Worship,” then take questions from the table.

The Corporate Officer schedules (or can decline) requests that fall outside the City’s jurisdiction. Confirm everything with City Hall — their process is the official one, not this page.

After the meeting

Official minutes and agendas stay on CivicWeb. I publish a plain-language write-up of what mattered — how I voted and why — on Reports. Closed sessions stay closed; where my account and the City’s differ, theirs is the record.

Book time with me

A Council meeting is not a private conversation. If you need 20–30 minutes on a neighbourhood issue, a file before Council, or something that does not belong on a public agenda, request a meeting on Get in touch. I confirm the time by email.

Questions about a meeting? Call or text (250) 509-0773, or email kpage@nelson.ca. City Hall main line is 250-352-5511 (nelson.ca).
